Open the channels

This is a poem that was inspired by a statement by Patti Smith that she wanted to reject the “horrifying perfection.”

allow a few weeds to grow in the garden

let the path spread just a bit

into the planting beds

and invite them into your path

soften the edges

place a rock or two or more

create a space

open the channels

remove the sharp edges

and touch the soft ones

in this way

others will find the

channels

and they

can flow

to you

and your garden
