Installation of new pastor

First transition poem

June 9, 2013

Written upon the occasion of the end of the pastoral ministry of Robert Kaufman at Rainbow Mennonite Church

We are here today to make note of a time

to mark a passing through

a going  TO   and a

Coming  FROM

It is a touch point of time

A point of transition

A change  from

  what WAS  to

  what WILL BE

A parting from then to then

It is a corner to turn

A bend to go round

A change

We are here today

As single travelers on our own paths

As a pastor who is turning his own corner with us

As friends each with our own corner to turn

As a community seeking to bend around

We are here today to celebrate

What has been

Who has been

Where has been and

When has been

We are here today to say a farewell

To feel the losses

To know the pain of the regrets

To affirm the  successes

To take hold of the memory of it all.

We are here today

To tie fast a knot in the thread

To tie these memories into the cord

To  tie them tight so they are not lost.

To put them in a safe place

A simple point of transition

A movement from now to now

A movement of here to here

A step
