The Cairns of Life

The touch points of my coming days

are begging me to move to them;

Foggy, faint, and hazy

but inviting me to travel ahead.

I stumble

 and I am unsure

where the cairns lead

but I know

they are there with their own

small incremental breathing moments

of life

 left by

those that have gone before me

passing through their own times

leaving their own bits of

life experience for me to touch as I pass

adding a little to some and not to others

setting my own path;

having left my contributions

to the cairns of life behind me.

Some confusing; some clear,

a mixture of the pains of loss

and the joys of gathering;

of sins both committed

and considered;

times of ugliness and

times of supreme beauty;

times of healing and

others of wounds scabbed over;

moments of pain and neglect;

of comfort and safety.

Of challenges accepted

and achieved

Of challenges accepted

and failed.

Moments of wisdom and

insight along with

Moments of utter dismay.

Such are the cairns of life.
