Blue Moon softly moves over
Tallgrass Prairie within the
silence of a comfortable
familiarity borne of a thousand
caresses of the virgin Soil
by the reflected light still emanating
from the Sun that
has gone to rest
behind the gentle swells of the
rolling Earth called the Flint Hills.
Blue Moon takes the reflected
light of the Resting Sun and
bestows it upon the Soil
and all its troves of
natural beauty and wonder
creating soft shadows
not possible under the
blazing Kansas Sun
and leaving dark depths
of mystery to invite or
frighten the passing soul.
Blue Moon passes by
but twice each year
leaving not a trace of
its path across the
night Sky or the
hungry Earth
save in the
souls of those who
dare to step into
it’s light and revel
in its darkness.
