Conversations with God: The colors of Heaven

December 12, 2022

God was not happy.

Plans for the Great Intersection of the Divine and the Human (GIDatH) had been going well. God had taken to calling it that but was trying out a number of names. God had tried a word “Christmas” was not sure about it.  Seemed a little limiting. However, the Astrology Club of Heaven had been doing a splendid job of arranging the stars and moons so that there would be a fine display on GIDatH night.

In any case, most everything was fine but now St. Peter demanded to see God and that always meant a problem to be solved.

“What is it Pete?” God wanted to hurry this along.

“Well, a group of conservative rabbinicals has arrived. They were quite excited to be here and eager to get through the process but then something happened.”

“They understand everyone gets in, right?” God could not understand why humans did not understand the word “everyone.”

“Well, just about the time, we were wrapping up the orientation and getting ready to issue wings, a group from Heavenly Pride came by. The conservative folks did not like the rainbow wings.”

“Let us understand this,” sighed God. “They are resisting getting into heaven over the color of someone elses wings?”

“Well, yes, they had assumed there would be uniformity.”

“OK,” said God patiently, “they can have white wings and in their heaven, there won’t be any colorful wings. They have made their own heaven and they will be happiest there. We can name it “Conservative Heaven” since we assume there will be more coming in the future.”  God was glad that the solution was so easy and was eager to be done with this.

Peter swallowed hard for he knew that was not the idea but he had to agree that we make our own Heaven. God just lets us in; well, through Peter of course.
