Light a Fire

we come now to to​​ light this fire

an act with intention and determination​​ 

for we are​​ like the prairies

that rely on the refining fire

to clean​​ the​​ surface​​ of its very self.

so we light this fire

to cleanse ourselves

of these past months and

to open up to a new​​ year​​ 

one filled with nurturing growth

and​​ the​​ flowering of hope.

Burn! Burn! Burn!

let the forces of evil be vanquished!

let the invasive weeds of doubt be consumed!

let the heat of the fire push out the cold of despair!

let the rage of our fire leap from this site

and​​ consume our remaining fears of tomorrow

warm us and our friends around it

and illuminate our path forward

and may the smoke of its dying embers

permeate our very souls and give us peace.
