It wasn’t the babies dying
or their desperate crying
It wasn’t the school children
or their teachers now forgotten
it wasn’t the maimed, the scared
it wasn’t the orphans or
the grieving parents;
it wasn’t any this.
It was the money
the threat of the loss
of revenue from folks
too scared to go shopping
and now; not then, not
before it was too late
for so many
the corporate boards
take a stand and ask for
the courtesy of
not to carry
at the least in the open.
So now we know what it
took to turn the tide
we know what we
love more than our own.
