Living our own demise

August 30, 2019

we are living our own demise

not the failure of one heart to

keep beating as is the normal course

for the human species

but a deeper and wider failure

of the will to survive;

seeing the storm clouds on the horizons

of our daily existence we

accept the fact that the waves

of destruction are moving in the

direction of our collective selves

we feign our concern but

we find it too painful,

too full of stress and angst

privately playing out scenarios

in our heads we add our

own logs to the inferno

engulfing us knowing

we could get up

and put it out

but that would

be risky; maybe even kill us

better to live our demise

sucking out the last

advantage; gathering

the biggest pile
