drawers are necessary and useful,
a absolute requirement,
nicely ordered and
arranged in configurations that
meet a prescribed set of compartments
in oder to allow for the keeping
of valuables and values,
baubles and beliefs,
our souls and our sins
a convenient way to hide
what is inconvenient
a place to put
what is irreplaceable
a spot to park our morality
when it is less popular
or when we feel threatened
and we prefer our impulses,
a dark, safe place to put
our beliefs when they
are in conflict with our
economic desires
and yet, they all remain
quiet and confined
available when needed
assuming that moths
have not eaten them away
or they are not rusty from disuse
and neglect.
