the stones had
done a good job
over the years
and had achieved
a certain charm in their
general chaos
and dishevelment
still holding back the
encroaching hillside
but they showed
their age and not
their strength or
their experience
and so they needed
some help in stretching
out or sitting up
straighter
and so one
by one, stone
on top of stone
in an organized but
natural way
they were laid
again; each supporting
the next layer and
all together
giving the hillside
its form and its
anchor.
