It was but a moment
a slight turn of one eye
no more than a
glance toward another view;
only a turning of the
breezes of the mind.
It was as quiet
as the fall of a leaf with the
weight of no more than
the heaviness of a rose petal
with no value in itself
save to impart beauty to a moment.
It happened without thought
but was not thoughtless
But oh the change it wrought
and the cost it extracted
the beauty it bore and the
sorrow it carried within its joy
the riches it brought and the
poverty it imparted
and the weight it became causing
me both to strengthen my spine
while I stooped to its demands
