It was the towel

It was the towel

that made the difference

a simple kitchen towel

wrapped around a naked waist

that connected the dots

and put the puzzle together.

there was tumult​​ erupting

the new king having arrived

on a donkey making a point

to the powerful;

thumbing his nose at the​​ 

elites but also not quite

giving the people

the answers they wanted

and now here the

men were gathered

for a sumptuous dinner

in a hall set apart from the​​ 

mayhem of the streets;

men who had been together​​ 

for three years sharing tables​​ 

and beds, stories and ideas,​​ 

fears and joys

and​​ 

their beloved leader

knelt down and

bathed their dirty feet

and dryed them tenderly

with a towel.

It was the towel

that made the difference.
